What is involved in the testing process?

Each student is tested and assessed using tests developed at Arrowsmith School in Toronto as well as standardized tests of mental ability and academic skills. These include achievement tests assessing word recognition, spelling, reading comprehension, writing, arithmetic, tests of mental ability, and tests assessing the levels of strength and weakness of each of the areas of learning dysfunction that are described on the Descriptions of 19 Learning Dysfunctions.

The tests are used to identify the student's specific learning dysfunctions and will also be used as the basis for designing his or her individual program of brain exercises when the student enrolls at Eaton Arrowsmith School.

Testing process for a full time student:

If a student is admitted when the school year is in progress, he or she will receive testing during school hours. He or she will miss class in order to complete this process, as it is our goal to complete this testing as soon as possible. Once the testing is complete, typically two to three days later, the tests are sent to Arrowsmith Toronto where they are scored and a program is developed. Until that time the student will work on a generic program, which includes brain exercises that target the most commonly weak brain areas.

If the student is admitted during the summer months, arrangements will be made to have him or her come to EAS for two to three days over the summer to complete the testing, generally from 9am to 3pm each day. More often than not, the results of the testing and all programming can then be in place by the start of the school year. If time does not allow for this, the student will begin the year on a generic program until all individualized programming is complete.

Testing process for a part time student:

If a student enters the part time program when the school year is in progress, it is most efficient for him or her to miss two to three days of school in order to spend that time at EAS to receive testing. This way, all results and programming will be ready in a more timely fashion than if the testing was completed during the hours of the part time program only.

If the student is admitted during the summer months, then he or she would have the testing completed at that time in the fashion described above.

Please note that there is no testing required for the Saturday Motor Symbol Sequencing program. Additionally, a student can only receive testing once he or she is admitted to EAS. Testing is not performed separately from school admission.

Approximately 4 - 6 weeks after the testing is completed, Arrowsmith School will arrange a meeting with the student’s family to discuss the test results. At this meeting, we will provide a written profile of the student’s specific strengths and weakness in each of the 19 areas of learning dysfunction.

Payment, deposit and cancellation policy

The testing fee is $2,200. A $500 deposit is due at the time of enrollment and if the deposit is not received prior to testing, we reserve the right to cancel the testing.
