Introduction Definitions Descriptions Research

he article Definition of a Learning Dysfunction written by Arrowsmith School founder Barbara Young outlines a theoretical framework for understanding the nature of learning dysfunctions and is the framework used by the Arrowsmith Program.

The learning dysfunctions described in the "Descriptions" menu above are the problems addressed by the Arrowsmith Program. They are not all of the possible problems that may interfere with the learning process, however they are the more common areas of difficulty.

If your child is learning disabled, is of average or above intelligence and has five or more of these problem areas, then the Full-time Program at Eaton Arrowsmith School may be an appropriate program for your child.

Students enrolled in one of the Part-time Programs at Eaton Arrowsmith School will typically have at least three or four of these problem areas.

Students enrolled in the Eaton Arrowsmith School Part Time Program for the Motor Symbol Sequencing Dysfunction will also have three or four problem areas but this program, which does not require testing, addresses only the motor symbol sequencing dysfunction.

The Eaton Arrowsmith School testing that is outlined on the Testing page of the web site is designed to identify which of these 19 specific areas of learning dysfunction are causing your child’s learning difficulties
