aton Arrowsmith School provides a full time day program for 100 students. A student with five or more areas of learning dysfunction will typically be enrolled in a three or four year program before returning to a regular school.

Each new student will have been fully tested at Eaton Arrowsmith School in order that we may assess his or her areas of weakness and design an appropriate program of brain exercises. Please see the Testing page of our web site for more information about the testing process.

Student progress during the year is monitored closely by the classroom teachers and recorded monthly in the on-line Record of Treatment. Students in the full-time program are tested twice during the year in January and June and parents are provided with a written report on their child’s progress on the exercise programs and in the academic program.

The Eaton Arrowsmith School Academic Program in English and Mathematics

In addition to the Arrowsmith Program of brain exercises, Arrowsmith School provides instruction in English and mathematics. This includes teaching the student new strategies and learning skills and utilizing the increased mental capacities, enabling the student to become a self-learner capable of effectively directing his or her future studies.

The teaching staff at the Eaton Arrowsmith School are all members of the BC College of Teachers (BCTF).

Eaton Arrowsmith School Schedule

The Eaton Arrowsmith School day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:00 p.m. with a 10 minute recess morning and afternoon and a one hour lunch and exercise break. The day is divided into eight class periods daily and most students spend six periods on the Arrowsmith Program brain exercises and one period on each of English and mathematics.

The school year commences on the first Tuesday after Labour Day. There is a two week break for the Winter Holiday and in March, and the school year ends usually at the end of the second week of June.

We offer a supervised Extended Day Program at a modest additional fee as a service to parents who are unable to pick their child up by 3:30 p.m. Regular school pick-up is between 3:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

The Extended Day Program runs from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is supervised by one of our staff. Students use this time to complete homework or for reading or other quiet study. Enrolment and billing is on a monthly basis and parents may enroll their child for one to five days per week. This service is also available at a daily fee for parents who may wish to use it only occasionally.

Eaton Arrowsmith School Class Size and Teaching Staff

There are three classes of students engaged in the full-time day program of exercises at Eaton Arrowsmith School with roughly 20 students in each class. There are two full-time Arrowsmith Program teachers in each class.

The Arrowsmith Program teachers have received extensive training in the Arrowsmith Program theory and methodology and have many years of experience working with special needs students and are able to provide a positive, supportive and structured learning experience.

Our overall ratio of less than eight students per teacher ensures that each student receives individual attention. Eaton Arrowsmith School provides a warm and caring environment for its students and pays close attention to their social and emotional needs as well as to their learning problems.

Eaton Arrowsmith School has developed a program that allows individuals to reach beyond their limitations. Students meet the same challenges in school that they later encounter in their adult lives. By strengthening weak learning capacities, the Arrowsmith Program enables students to become effective, confident and self-directed learners for life.
